Skiing and snowboarding with your family is a magical experience, and it’s even better when your little ones can hit the slopes for free. In honor of January being Learn to Ski and Snowboard Month, we’ve compiled a list of ski resorts across the United States offering complimentary lift tickets for kids all season long!
California
Big Bear Mountain Resort
Located in southern California, Big Bear offers free lift tickets for kids 4 and under. Physical proof of age is required at the ticket window.
Heavenly Mountain Resort
Spanning both California and Nevada, Heavenly Mountain Resort is in the Lake Tahoe area and offers free lift tickets for kids 4 and under.
Mammoth Mountain
At Mammoth, kids 4 and under get free lift tickets and season passes that can be picked up at a ticket window. Proof of age is required and a $25 processing fee applies for season passes.
Palisades Tahoe
Just next to Lake Tahoe, at Palisades Tahoe, kids 4 and under ski free.
Oregon
Mt. Bachelor
In Bend, Oregon, Mt. Bachelor offers a special "Kids Ski Free" for kids ages 6 to 12 to ski free for the same number of days as their parents when parents purchased in advance online with a 3-day or more lift ticket. Kids 5 and under ski and ride for free.
Montana
Big Sky
It's not free, but it's too good of an offer not to include it on the list. At Big Sky, kids 6 and under ski and ride for $1 a day! A $5 Sky Card is required but can be reused throughout the season.
Wyoming
Jackson Hole
Explore the Teton Mountains and visit Jackson Hole, which offers free lift tickets for kids 4 and under.
Idaho
Sun Valley
Located in the Sawtooth Mountains, Sun Valley Resort allows kids 4 and under ski and ride for free.
Utah
Brighton
Right outside Salt Lake City, Brighton offers up to two free lift tickets to kids 6 and under with a purchasing adult. Each lift ticket requires a purchase of a $5 RFID card that can be reloaded throughout the season.
Powder Mountain
Located up in Ogden, Powder Mountain lets kids 4 and under ski free. Tickets must be purchased online.
Park City
A popular ski destination, Park City offers great terrain and a fun city for the family to explore. Free lift tickets are offered to kids 4 and under.
Snowbasin
Located north of Salt Lake City near Ogden, Snowbasin offers free lift tickets for kids 4 and under.
Snowbird
Easy to get to from Salt Lake, Snowbird is a popular destination for any skier, and to make it even better, kids 6 and under ski and ride for free.
Solitude Mountain
Another easy to get to the mountain, Solitude offers free lift tickets for kids 4 and under.
Sundance Resort
At Sundance, kids 5 and under ski and ride for free.
Colorado
Arapahoe Basin
Located on Loveland Pass in Keystone, Colorado, Arapahoe Basin offers free lift tickets for kids 5 and under.
Aspen Snowmass
At Aspen Snowmass, kids 6 and under always ski and ride for free. In addition, Aspen Snowmass tends to run other lift ticket deals for older kids 12 and under when you stay and rent. Check out their website for the most up-to-date details.
Beaver Creek
At Beaver Creek, kids 4 and under ski free.
Breckenridge
At Breckenridge, there’s no shortage of terrain to explore, and kids 4 and under ski free.
Copper Mountain
Kids 4 and under ski free at Copper Mountain. Copper also offers one free season pass for a child 15 and under with the purchase of one adult season pass.
Crested Butte
At Crested Butte, kids 4 and under ski free all season long. Tickets are purchased in person and must be present.
Keystone
At Keystone, kids 4 and under always ski free. If families book two or more nights of lodging, they will receive one free lift ticket for a child 12 and under. For each additional night, they receive an additional day of skiing.
Purgatory Ski Resort
Located just outside of Durango, Purgatory offers its own Powder Kids Pass, allowing free skiing and riding for kids 12 and under! Just show proof of age and sign the waiver at the ticket window.
Vail
At Vail, kids 4 and under ski and ride free.
Vermont
Bolton Valley Resort
Located in northern Vermont, Bolton Resort offers free lift tickets for kids 5 and under. A $5 RFID card is required for all lift tickets, which can be reused in the future.
Bromley
Tucked in Vermont along the Green Mountains, Bromley Mountain Resort offers free lift tickets for kids 5 and under.
Killington
Nicknamed the Beast of the East, Killington offers everything for every level skier or rider in your family. Lift tickets are free for kids 6 and under and require a $6 reloadable RFID card.
Mad River Glen
At Mad River Glen, kids 5 and under ski free.
Mount Snow
In Dover, Vermont, Mount Snow allows kids 4 and under to ski and ride for free.
Okemo
Okemo offers free lift tickets for kids 4 and under.
Pico
Sharing the mountain with Killington, Pico Mountain offers free skiing and riding to kids 6 and under.
Smuggler’s Notch
At Smugs, kids 5 and under ski and ride for free all season.
Stowe
A mix of some of the best East Coast skiing and New England charm, Stowe offers free lift tickets for kids 4 and under.
New Hampshire
Loon Mountain Resort

Crystal Mountain (Michigan)
For those in the Midwest, Crystal Mountain in northern Michigan offers kids 6 and under ski free.
Alpine Valley (Michigan)
Located outside the Detriot area, Alpine Valley Resort allows for kids 5 and under ski free with a regularly priced adult ticket.
Granite Peak (Wisconsin)
In the heart of Wisconsin, Granite Peak offers free lift tickets for kids 5 and under.
Pennsylvania
Elk Mountain
A homey ski resort in Northeast PA, Elk Mountain offers a free lift ticket for kids 4 and under with the purchase of an adult ticket.
Seven Springs
Located outside Pittsburg, Seven Spring offers free lift tickets to kids 4 and under.

Bellayre (New York)
Bellayre Mountain, located in the Catskills of New York, has $10 lift tickets all season long for kids 6 and under.
Sunday River (Maine)
In Newry, Maine, Sunday River offers $5 lift tickets for kids 5 and under.
Sugarloaf Mountain (Maine)
At the state's third-highest peak, Sugarloaf Mountain in Maine offers $5 lift tickets for kids 5 and under.
Tips for Families:
- Always check each mountain's website for the most up-to-date information. Some mountains may require proof of age, purchasing the tickets in person or online, additional fees for RFID cards, and other special packages they may offer.
- Consider signing your kids up for ski school or lessons. This not only helps build their confidence on the mountain, but some mountains may offer discounted lift tickets and/or rental packages with lessons.
- Take advantage of family discounts on rentals and accommodations often offered at these resorts.
- Look for special rates and promotions for elementary-aged kids, too. Many states offer ski passes and passports, allowing elementary-aged kids to ski for free at participating mountains.
- Check your local mountain for student nights and other specials.
