Meet Merrick!
She is one of our mini ambassadors and a killer snowboarder at the young age of 11! She’s a Colorado native who loves to be outside rain, snow, or shine. She is absolutely a kid to watch as she crushes, on and off the slopes. Multi-talented and kind, Merrick is one cool cat and we were lucky enough to get to know her a little better.
WK: How old were you when you first started hitting the slopes and who first taught you how to ski/snowboard?
Merrick: Two years old, my Mom and Dad taught me.
WK: Where is the coolest place you’ve ever ski/snowboarded, what did you love about it the most?
Merrick: Crested Butte. I really loved the mountain and made a lot of new friends there. The town is super cool too!
WK: What is your favorite snowboarding trick, how long did it take you to learn?
Merrick: Backside 180. It took me a couple of weeks to learn it. The hardest part was learning to ride away switch. So fun! I really love to free ride and have been working on my pow riding, excited to get into some new terrain!
WK: What is the next challenge or trick in your sport you’re working on?Â
Merrick: I would like to get my backside 360 dialed. More pow riding too!
WK: Who is your ski/snowboarding hero and why?
Merrick: Chloe Kim is awesome. She is a great snowboarder and always smiling and I like her positive vibe. Her tricks are rad! Kimmy Fasani is up there too, she is an amazing freerider!
WK: What is your favorite thing to do in the off season/summer time?
Merrick: Mountain bike! I also like to rock climb and SUP. (Stand up paddle.)
WK: What are you doing when you’re not on the slopes?
Merrick: Hanging with my family, friends and two dogs.
WK: If you could have any superpower, what would it be and why?
Merrick: I wish I could fly! I look at birds and wish I could feel what they feel soaring!
WK: What do you want to be when you grow up and why?
Merrick: A professional mountain biker and an interior designer. I love to design and decorate rooms, and I LOVE to race my bike. I will always snowboard too!
WK: Anything else you would like our readers to know about you?
Merrick: I read a lot, I also like to write stories. I used to ski but switched to snowboarding at four years old. I went surfing this past year and caught my first wave, first try. I would like to surf more! I love Hawaii. I am kind and love animals and like to make new friends.
WK: Do you have any tips for kids or adults who are just starting out in the sport?
Merrick: Keep at it! If you are working on linking turns, always start out on your toe side edge. Once you get that toe side turn, you are carving because heel side is so easy. Carving is the best!
